WHO I AM:

I have been on an incredible artistic journey for the past 31 years and have loved every moment of it! To say that I love painting is truly an understatement.

In 1989 I wandered into an art gallery in Florida and instantly fell in love with a landscape watercolor painting by national artist, Nita Engle. I had no idea who she was but I knew that this “feeling” was the start of something new for me. After moving to Minnesota the following year, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to her: thus; began my own journey with “watercolor.”

MY APPROACH:

Throughout the years, my approach to watercolor painting has evolved to include a very loose and free wet-into-wet style. I use a number of special techniques in my paintings and attempt to enhance the viewer’s appreciation of the colors, shapes and designs that surround us. I have studied with nationally known artists Nita Engle, Karlyn Holman, Maxine Masterfield and Jeanne Carbonetti who continue to help me shape my creativity.

MY STUDIO:

Originally from New England, I reside in St. Paul, MN where I have a working studio and teach painting classes & workshops. I particularly love to “introduce” this beautiful medium of watercolor to absolute beginners. It is a joy to share what I love with them.

My abstract painting entitled “Genesis” was published by North Light Book Publishing Co. in Splash 6, a book consisting of the work of 93 artists throughout the country. My paintings, prints & notecards can be viewed at my studio by appointment.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT MY WORKSHOPS:

“What a joy it is to be around someone who is doing their passion. Helen Bond creates an atmosphere of creative stimulation. You cannot make a mistake in Helen’s class – you can only learn and experience.”

“Helen has a special gift for teaching adults to unlock their own learning about themselves and their art. She leads them through their personal journey with her wit and wisdom.”

“Helen’s gentle, encouraging style, laced with humor and wisdom was key to finding the artist within me. Helen gently brings out the artist in each person, nurtures, respects and applauds them. It is magic to watch Helen create a landscape with water and color.”

“Having never taken a painting class before, I was a little nervous about what to expect in Helen’s class. Helen is an excellent teacher and motivator! I was able to frame two pictures that I painted from my first series of classes with Helen.”
